Laboratory Diagnostics for the Emergency Patient

Welcome to an online course in Laboratory Diagnostics for the Emergency Patient!

The course is aimed at veterinarians working with emergency patients who want to learn more about how to use available laboratory diagnostics effectively and accurately, to provide the best possible care for the patient. The main focus is interpretation of common available laboratory tests for use in the emergency room. What test to analyse and when, how to make sure to avoid preanalytical errors and how to interpret the results together with the clinical presentation of the patient.

The aim is to learn how to have a structured diagnostic approach to an emergency patient. Major parts will cover hematology and hemostasis, diagnostics of the renal patient, the trauma patient and how to interpret acid base disorders.

The course is accredited for the Swedish and Norwegian Specialist in diseases of dogs and cats programmes. Dutch and other national accreditations can be applied for upon request.

The course is given in English.

Josefine Öberg, DVM, Dipl ECVCP. Josefine graduated in 1997 and became a Swedish Specialist in diseases in dogs and cats in 2002. In 2013, she became a diplomate in clinical pathology.
