Arvid Carlsson Award

Arvid Carlsson Award by Sahlgrenska Science Park

For the second consecutive year, Sahlgrenska Science Park is paying tribute to innovation, knowledge and competence, along with good entrepreneurship, by awarding a prize in the name of Nobel Prize winner, Arvid Carlsson.

The call for nominations is now open and proposals can be submitted until 10 September 2018.

The prize will be awarded on 27 September at the 13th Park Annual event taking place in Gothenburg with the theme “A brand new world.”

The Arvid Carlsson Award by Sahlgrenska Science Park is given to an entrepreneur who develops the progress of human health and welfare. The award is aligned with Sahlgrenska Science Park’s vision of a world-class, life science region.

Arvid Carlsson won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2000 for “discoveries concerning signal transduction in the nervous system.” He is the founder of A. Carlsson Research at Sahlgrenska Science Park in Gothenburg.

“Arvid Carlsson has not only had a key role in research and medicine, he is also an excellent role model as a true entrepreneur in our environment. Through the Arvid Carlsson Award at Sahlgrenska Science Park, we want to highlight and acknowledge promising entrepreneurs. We also want to stimulate skills development and making connections in the global life science arena,” says Charlotta Gummeson, CEO for Sahlgrenska Science Park.

At the inaugural award last year, Erik Gatenholm and Hector Martinez, the founders of CELLINK, received the award from Arvid Carlsson himself. “A completely fantastic honour,” said Erik Gatenholm about the prize. On 27 September, he will be on the stage again to hand over the challenge trophy to this year’s winner.

The prize winner is determined after a nomination process, and then a selection process by a jury consisting of representatives from industry, the University of Gothenburg, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Chalmers University of Technology, Region Västra Götaland, Göteborg City and Mölndal Municipality.
