The study tour will take you to:

  • VISIT 1. Henriksdal Biogas production plant

Visit the Henriksdal Biogas Production plant, one of the largest in all of the Nordic’s which was inaugurated in April, 2016. The plant has a capacity to produce up to 200 GWh or 20 million Nm3 of upgraded biogas, bio-CNG as vehicle biofuel to 280 buses in Stockholm City, and for the local gas grid. Sewage sludge from a wastewater treatment plant is used as raw material as well as fats from food industry and glycerol from biodiesel production.

The raw biogas is upgraded with Carbotech process technology. The biogas production and upgrade is done in a cooperation between Stockholm Water and Scandinavian Biogas. Currently, a new large tunnel for sewage water and new water treatment plant are to be started construction with total cost of €900 million which will increase the plant capacity significantly.

The tour comprises the anaerobic digestion chambers with process control room and the upgrading plant with gas storages next to the bus terminal where the filling takes place. The plant is located underground and the view from the roof gives an extraordinary view of Stockholm where all of the city can be seen from “above”.

  • VISIT 2. RISE SPF laboratories

RISE Surface, Process and Formulation (RISE SPF) is a unit within RISE –Research Institutes of Sweden, focusing on chemical process- and pharmaceutical development, surface technology and formulation. As a partner with industry and academic research groups RISE conduct projects from idea to proof of concept for commercial application. RISE SPF’s main business areas are within Life Science, Specialty & Fine Chemicals, Bioeconomy and Surface technology.

Our activities span from lab scale R&D to concept testing in pilot scale. The majority of the personnel have a long and multidisciplinary background from industrial chemical and pharmaceutical R&D. Our extensive analytical competence and instrumentation for chemical and surface analysis, provides us with the tools necessary for advanced problem solving.

During the guided tour you will learn more about selected areas of expertise and see our innovation infrastructure with state of the art research laboratories. A special focus will be on our flexible laboratories for developing, optimizing and testing of for instance new renewable transport fuel manufacturing processes. In these facilities we use miniaturized refinery equipment for developing and optimizing new facile processes for converting lignocellulosic and other feedstocks to renewable transport fuels and chemicals together with industry.

Please note, the programme for the pre conference study tour is subject to change.
Confirmed program will be released before the conference starts. Registration is required.
